In Australia, schools have been struggling to teach a bullying culture that’s been blamed for a rise in suicide, school drop-outs and a rise of self-harm.
But in Milwaukee, one school district has set up a website to help school-aged kids with bullying.
The site, called Bullying at School, is run by the Milwaukee Public Schools’ Office of Bullying Prevention and Education (BPSO), which runs a range of education initiatives including online learning, crisis intervention and mental health support.
Bullying in schoolsBullying is an issue in schools around the country, particularly in Sydney where teachers are required to speak up when they see bullying and how to deal with it.
The school board has been struggling with this issue for many years, with many teachers feeling uncomfortable speaking out.
The Bullying in Schools website encourages students to report bullying on their school’s website.
“We want to make it clear that bullying is not OK, it is not acceptable and that you can report it to the school,” said Ms Pender, the principal of Milwaukee Public School.
Ms Pender said the school’s bullying prevention and education program has been working with the school to identify and support students.
“In some ways, it’s kind of like a social worker, but it’s actually helping kids actually get the help they need and we have a lot of kids who are struggling with it,” she said.
“Bullying can be a very serious issue for kids and they need support and we want to give that support.”
It’s really important that we do our best to make sure that all of our students feel comfortable and safe.
“Ms Penders website also includes links to support groups for students and teachers.
Bullies in schoolsThe site also offers a list of resources to help students and staff with bullying in the classroom.
Bullys in schools is also available to download for free to teachers and staff at all school sites.
