Protesters at the University of Denver were out in force Monday after a student at the school, which serves about 3,500 students, posted a Facebook video showing her being sexually assaulted by two male students, The Denver Post reported.
“I’m so tired of this shit,” the woman said in the video, referring to the school’s handling of sexual assaults on campus.
“We are here to be educated.
This is the future.
This isn’t just a problem at CU-B, this is a problem across the country.”
A protest was held at the Boulder campus.
In a statement, the university said it was “deeply troubled” by the video and has “reached out to the student to offer support.”
“The video is a horrifying and deeply troubling violation of students’ trust and safety,” the statement said.
“The university has been in contact with the student and is working with her to address the issue.”
The Boulder Independent reports that CU-Denver was in the process of canceling classes on Monday due to the incident.
The student’s family has since filed a complaint with the Boulder police.
The video was posted to a Facebook page called ‘Haven’t Been Stalked,’ according to the Denver Post.
The post is one of the more than 600 “haven’t been stalked” posts on the group’s Facebook page.
A representative for the student’s father told the Post that he believes the school was trying to make a point by posting the video.
“It’s so ridiculous that they would post a video and then make a statement,” the father told The Post.
“There’s no other way they can make that statement.
They’re trying to try to create a narrative.”
In the video posted to the Haven’t Been Scared Facebook page, the woman says she’s “really tired of being raped,” but also says she wants her attacker punished.
“This is the reality of being a woman in this country, especially in a place like this,” she says.
“You know what?
You get it.
I’m tired of it.
This ain’t no joke.
This doesn’t have nothing to do with sex.
This does have everything to do to do … with power.”
The video comes on the heels of another Facebook post that showed another student being sexually harassed by two males.
“So, my name is [REDACTED], I’m from the U of Colorado,” the man in the videos said.
He continued, “I just want to say to you, it’s your fault, you don’t know me, and I’m sorry for making you uncomfortable.”
He added, “But you’re going to learn that I’m just like you.
And that’s the truth.”
The U of Denver did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
