FLORIDA VIRTUE SCHOOL LEADERS TIM WALLACE, PHIL HENRY and KATHY WALKERS are among a group of new state education leaders who will launch a new initiative today in conjunction with the opening of the first Virtual School in Florida in March 2019.
WALLACE and HENRIQUE WILLIAMS are two of the new leaders who have been tapped to be the new Education Leaders for Virtual Schools in Florida.
The Florida Virtual School is an initiative that provides online learning and learning opportunities in virtual environments.
The new virtual school is set to begin in March and is expected to bring thousands of students to Florida.
“This initiative is a partnership between FLVSS and the Florida Virtual Schools Coalition,” said WALLACHE.
“We believe that education and learning are inseparable.
This is the first initiative to bring virtual learning to Florida in more than 20 years and we are proud to be partnering with these visionary educators to help make the state of Florida one of the fastest growing virtual communities in the nation.
HENRY added, “We are excited to see how FLVss Virtual Schools can transform education for students, families and teachers in Florida, and look forward to partnering with them in the coming months.”
WALKERS added, “We are delighted to have been selected as the new state Education Leaders.
We believe this new initiative will provide opportunities for our students, our families and our teachers, and we look forward for the first steps forward in the next 10 years of virtual learning in Florida.”
The virtual school will be run by the FLV Schools Coalition, a statewide organization that seeks to provide a platform for virtual learning, and to provide educators and students access to information and resources for learning, social and emotional support, and educational and career development.
This new initiative is the culmination of an ongoing collaboration between the FL VSS and Florida Virtual Education Coalition. “
It is our hope that FLV students will gain the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in today’s world and thrive in the future,” said WILLIAMSON.
This new initiative is the culmination of an ongoing collaboration between the FL VSS and Florida Virtual Education Coalition.
The Florida VSS has been working closely with FLV Education Coalition to create the Virtual Schools Initiative and is now launching it with a $2.9 million grant from the EDE.
Earlier this month, FLV launched a program that provided a digital learning experience for students in grades 3-8 in kindergarten through fifth grade.
The virtual program offered the students a hands-on experience in an interactive classroom with interactive activities, videos, and games.
Florida VSS officials have also partnered with the Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) and the University of Florida in an initiative to launch Virtual Schools on a national scale in 2020.
Currently, there are over 6,000 Virtual Schools nationwide, with more than 100 Virtual Schools open in schools in the state, according to the Education League.
In 2016, the EDe launched a Virtual Education Grant program to provide funding to schools in Florida that are planning or are currently planning to offer online learning in the classroom.
Other Education Leaders in Florida include FLV Senior Superintendent of Education David Haines, FL VSS Vice President for External Relations Lisa Egan, Florida Education League Director of Education Education and Career Services, FLV Director of Career Development and Education Policy Dr. David C. Johnson, Director of the Department of Career Services and Community Engagement, and Florida Virtual Schools Coordinator Tim Wallace.
