When 17-year-old Kia Simmons was a senior at Hollywood Senior High School in South L.A., she earned more than $5,000 a month on her stock exchange stock trading, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The teen also earned money on the company’s YouTube channel, earning about $2,000 in YouTube earnings a month.
Simmons’ stock trading was reported on a report from the Los Angeleno Times.
Simmons had been an intern at the company for a month before her internship, the paper reported.
The Times reported that the stock trading wasn’t a violation of her internship contract.
Simmons was not arrested.
In addition to the money earned by her internship at Hollywood Reporter, Simmons also earned $4,000 from a stock exchange trading, the Times reported.
Simmons is a member of the Los Feliz High School football team.
The team won the Metro League championship last season and earned $1,200 in profit.
Simmons will begin her sophomore year at USC this fall.
In a statement to NBC News, a USC spokesperson said: “This is a developing story and we are not at liberty to share any details of it.
USC will take the appropriate action as the circumstances warrant.”
Simmons was placed on administrative leave by the school and is no longer allowed to trade on the exchange, according the Times.
