GASTON COUNTY, Texas (AP) In the wake of a deadly shooting at a Texas high school, parents are urging people to be on the lookout for signs of possible school shootings.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says it’s investigating three possible school shooting deaths and the death of a fifth person.
The department says it hasn’t ruled out the possibility that a third death may have been caused by an act of terrorism.
State officials say they’re looking into the possibility of the deaths of five children, ages 9, 10 and 12, at the Gallant County school.
The school district says there were no fatalities.
The sheriff’s office says two of the victims were taken to local hospitals.
State police say a second person has died in the incident.
The Gallant county sheriff says a sixth victim, identified as a student at a nearby public high school on Monday, is also in critical condition.
State health officials say the sixth victim was at the school when he was shot.
Statewide, there have been eight school shootings since the start of the school year.
The Texas Department for Health Services says the number is now up to 11.
A total of 19 children were injured in those incidents.
